I went on a Transformational Retreat — here’s how it affected my life

Dear SOHA,

Just a few weeks ago, I was at home in Manchester, feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges. Today, I’m writing this letter feeling renewed, empowered, and ready to embrace a fresh start. My experience in Thailand has truly changed me, and I wanted to share my reflections with you.

At 46 years old, I was navigating life’s twists and turns with the weight of recent trauma and stress bearing heavily on my shoulders. My recent divorce had left me feeling unmoored, and my mental health struggles had become a constant companion. I decided that I needed a change—a complete reset.

I wasn’t sure exactly what I needed – but inside I yearned for something that would allow me to heal, reconnect with myself, and rediscover joy. That’s when I stumbled upon SOHA and took a leap of faith!

When I arrived at the airport I was feeling rather nervous— what had I let myself in for? But then on arrival I was met by Manuel. He put me at ease immediately and set the tone for what was to come. Our transfer whisked us away to the Khao Lak – part of the world that I had never before visited.

When I stepped into the resort, I felt a profound sense of peace. The accommodation was more than I had imagined—an oasis of calm and comfort. I felt reassured again that I was in the right place.

The whole retreat was well designed and each day was a new adventure. What I learned on day 1 in psychoeducation workshop with Jet put me in a fresh frame of mind from the start. The meditation allowed me to center myself, find calm and prepare for the transformative experience ahead.

The days that followed were a blend of physical challenges, emotional healing, and cultural exploration. I had never imagined myself doing so many different activities. Muay Thai felt like a step oustide my comfort zone, but it helped me push my boundaries, and the individual therapy sessions addressed mental and emotional needs that I didn’t realise I had.

The excursions were another highlight of the retreat. James Bond Island and the 3 Temple Tour provided a cultural enrichment that I hadn’t fully anticipated.

One of the most unexpected and delightful aspects of the retreat was the friendships I forged. The sense of camaraderie among the other guests was incredible. We supported each other through challenges, celebrated victories, and formed bonds that I believe will last a lifetime. Sharing this experience with others who were on similar journeys created a unique sense of belonging.

Manuel’s involvement in the retreat was deeply inspiring. His hands-on approach and personal engagement means he’s not just a facilitator but a mentor who genuinely cares about each person’s journey. His presence and guidance made me feel supported every step of the way.

As my time at the retreat came to a close, I felt a mixture of gratitude and sadness. The retreat had given me so much more than I could have hoped for. I left with a renewed clarity about myself and future. My mental health had improved significantly, and the stress that once seemed insurmountable had become manageable. I returned home with new tools to navigate life’s challenges and a heart full of hope and optimism.

SOHA was not just a holiday, it was a life-changing journey. It provided me with the space and support I needed to heal and grow. For anyone who finds themselves at a crossroads, seeking a change, or simply wanting to reconnect with themselves, I wholeheartedly recommend this. It’s an investment in you.

Thank you, SOHA, and thank you Manuel for giving me the gift of renewal. I am excited to embrace the next chapter of my life with a fresh perspective and an open heart.

With gratitude,
Jo
